I am a part time 3rd year. A year ago, I told my pgl I was quitting if I couldn’t go 70% hours bc I was working myself into the ground.
Sometimes I am able to have a life. If I need to leave work exactly at 5 pm for some reason, it isn’t an issue. If I need to go to a dentists appointment, I don’t need to make up the hours I didn’t bill later or something. I go climbing and skiing on the weekends and walk my dog in the morning. I think people still respect me? They definitely see that I have taken a step back.
That being said I am still emotionally full-time. I am just as invested in my matters and doing a good job. Since I am so invested, sometimes it feels like all I am doing is prolonging my burnout.
Yep, at my firm it’s via a separate true up check at bonus time
A1- can you still make partner ? (Assuming you also start to bring in clients, if that matters)
FWIW, I made counsel this year (effective Jan 1), and I was told partner would have been an option if I’d wanted it — but as with A1 above, I just don’t want that life.

Can you turn down work when you hit your monthly part time target? How to you manage the work so that it won’t become a full time workload? Any tips?
