Depends on your practice area and group’s staffing, but multiple people in my group have gone down to 80% over the years and it seems to have worked well. If they bill higher than 80% then they get a comp true-up, but they don’t have the same stress of hitting hours throughout the year that everyone else does. My group doesn’t work like a sweatshop though so if you’re 100% utilized (even if it’s at a reduced schedule), we don’t demand you be at 110%+.

I went to 80% and only regret not going lower. It doesn’t always help you avoid work when it’s really busy, but the lower target helps at least take one stress lever down a bit.
F i’ve heard some people saying flex hours don’t really work in practice so curious to hear
