I used Becker for ISC and liked their structured approach, especially the practice exams. (I felt like they mirrored the real thing well). A friend used UWorld and said their detailed explanations for wrong answers were super helpful. If you can, use both: Becker for overall prep and UWorld for targeted practice.
Wait I feel like this question is directed right to me. I am studying for ISC right now and have both Becker and uworld. I use Becker as my main method of studying and then uworld to supplement the questions. But the uworld questions are significantly harder and I’m not sure what that means. I am wondering if uworld is asking things I don’t need to know.
Yes
Used Becker - what I learned is, Becker USED to be enough (and can still potentially be) lol. The current test bank isn’t quite there.
For Becker to be enough now, I recommend watching the videos and reading the book. It’s going to hit things that may not come up in the test bank. Also make sure you hit every option available - the mini exams, practice exams, simulated exams. They all seem to have different questions. Don’t just rely on hitting the practice exam hard because if you follow Becker’s advice, you’re going to hit less than 400 questions (i excluded chapter 1 beyond a light read because they said it wouldn’t be in the exam), you may find yourself not feeling ready. Don’t sleep on chapter 1. I def saw questions that made me wish I read it (although who knows, maybe they were throw-away questions meant to mess with us).
So does Uworld provide better explanations than Becker? I may just purchase NINJA CPA as supplement instead for cheaper price.
They’re more detailed. Yes
I took ISC earlier this month so I won’t get the result until March. I did the Becker MCQ twice, then did the practice exams and final review. Skimming the textbook helped explain a few topics.
I felt pretty good about it but I could’ve always gone through the MCQ an additional time and studied the textbook more. I believe it covered just about everything.
I have Becker Roger (bought by my firm) and I bought Uworld after I did a free week trial and loved it. I just retook the AUD test, failed it once last year using Roger only. This time I used Uworld only and felt so much more prepared. Uworld helps dumb down tough subjects and makes it easier to understand.
I can't speak to ISC specifically, because I took BAR, but I used UWorld and passed all 4 in under 2 months with no score less than 83. If ISC is anything like the other parts, as long as you're higher than a 70 average and do 25-50% of the MCQs, you'll be in a solid spot.
Not busy season, no. August - October, and took Fridays off as PTO so I could have a solid 3 days of longer studying. 2-4 hours combined per day during the other 4 work days. Also listened to videos on 2x speed while eating/showering/driving.
