Hello! I am presenting a series of development seminars with the Director of Recruiting and the Director of ER I’m a couple weeks. This will be my first time leading a formal training like this. However, I am a subject matter expert. Any recommendations for a newbie? My deck and outline are built already and approved.

Awesome, and congratulations!

Welcome to the world of formal training it can be a blast. I've been in the field for over 11 years and have given countless formal trainings and talks all over North America to thousands of participants in small to large groups.

Being the SME can be great and difficult at the same time when delivering formal training. You want to be yourself and confident because, again, you are the SME. But you also don't want to come off as boring and overwhelming.

Practice, practice, and practice. In my professional opinion, the worst thing a speaker/trainer can do is not know their info. Lots of utterances such as ( umm and like) and stammering will turn off a crowd and make it seem as though you are not prepared. Work on cadence and phrasing, and don't be afraid of silence and using pausing to drive home a point. Watching a few TED talks always helps me.

I am an Audit S1 that wants to work in a B4 Forensics practice. Would it be best for me to accept an offer in Forensics at a much smaller firm (local, 150ish total employees) to gain experience and then try to move to B4 Forensics? Or should I stay in Audit and wait for B4 Forensics positions to open up? Please let me know your thoughts!

Everyone has a different perspective on this but would love to hear yours. Someone has debt ranging say 4-5% interest rates. Do you attack debt more then investing to move towards a debt free life or do you go after investments since they return historically above that then paying down closer towards retirement. I know the latter looks better on paper but what about the psychological factors of being debt free and the guaranteed return on interest savings.

My post is for a lot of folks here who complain about managers not budging to negotiations and not offering package ,what you are expecting.I have one thing to say, there are lot of ibm employees who moved to kyndryl. Inspite of lot of contributions they are earning meagre salary. Now do you expect these people to hire you for more package most of time the package you are demanding is more than what these managers draw. So pls do not look at kyndryl as any other startup.Thanks.

I applied for a Director Learning and Development (L&D) role at McKinsey about a month ago via a referral. About a week ago, my McKinsey employee (who referred me) received an automated email saying that I had moved to the pre-screening process of the recruitment process and that I'll hear from the recruiter shortly.

It's more than a week now and I haven't heard back. Can anyone shed light on the process -- what to expect, timelines, what is the interview process like, etc.

Thanks!

I am currently an HR professinal of 3 years with past background as a teacher/advisor in higher ed. I am aiming to pivot to a more L&D, training specialist type role in order to leverage the skills obtained in both areas. It would be the perfect career for me. Any openings or hiring at your company? I am not super concerned about the title as long as there is room for growth and I can pay for my 3 kids' daycare tuitions. ;)

Need some benchmarks: What would average/good survey results be for a leadership skills class (instructor-led)? We ask for the participant’s experience (did you like it, would you recommend, etc.), and also send an impact survey out 2 months later to their manager (have you seen positive behavior changes since training). Our experience survey is at 92% positive and impact to behaviors is at 83% positive. Anything I can compare to in order to share the story with leadership?

Looking for some advice…I’ve been told that transitioning to L&D should be “easy“ given my experience and skills (résumé posted for reference - note that I adapt it per position). I have tried applying for specialist to Director positions but I’m not having much luck. Any suggestions on position type and level that I should be focused on. (I have executive level exp. and cannot afford to start an entry-level position.)

Reposting from HR bowl: I’ve heard there is a hiring boom, especially for L&D roles. I was let go recently from a toxic environment (removed the company from everything) after only 4 days of work. I’m actively job searching but not receiving ideal hits. I see a lot of senior level L&D roles but not as many for specialist roles, specifically in tech. I have 5.5 years of experience. Any advice for me? I’m also seeking therapy for the trauma & coping, now ready for securing that next role!

Hi everyone, I have a question about job transition. I want to transition into sales training. I have 9 YOE in sales account mgt and created some really effective trainings my office used and loved. After that I got 2 yrs in curriculum development elsewhere.

Is anyone else experiencing this at their organization?
