Probably not the best time to pivot from clinical.
My two cents as someone with experience in healthcare strategy/ops
He’d need to show capabilities beyond nursing/clinical, especially if that is mostly or entirely his experience. Transitioning into admin/strategy can be tough—especially in this market—but not impossible. If he can land a role, comp would likely fall in the $60–100K range, depending on geography, org, etc. Definitely emphasize any prior exposure to business/ops work.
Relevant roles could be:
• Clinical Operations Associate/Manager
• Care Model Innovation Analyst
• Performance Improvement Specialist
• Strategy Analyst
• Healthcare Consultant/Project Manager
Orgs could include consulting/services org like Chartis, ECG, or Kaufman Hall or health systems/payers such as United/Optum, Kaiser, HCA, or Ascension
I might recommend targeting internal strategy or clinical transformation roles at health systems first, especially ones that value clinical backgrounds
