Hey Gov Crew!
What is your proudest moment working in the public sector government?

Without revealing my role … I am happy to see the federal decisions impact the residents in my state it’s always good to be among the constituents.

My fed job requires contact with the public almost exclusively. Every now and then I have the privilege of meeting very kind and sometimes fascinating people in the field. On rare occasions the topic of faith comes up and I have had the good fortune to speak into an individual's life. My proudest moments are when I am humbly used by God to edify, uplift and bring hope to hurting people. The rewards are evidenced when I revisit and see a person's dynamic has shifted and they are on the road to satisfaction and wholeness. Those are the moments I appreciate the most while on the job.

If you are interested in remote part-time work for a think tank, please let me know. I know there is a company hiring, and the salary and benefits are pretty good.

Right now, I can't say there is anything I am super proud of. Most days I don't even want to admit that I work in the government. Just doing my best to avoid layoffs at this point.

Im going to take a wild stab at this one. You work for VBA?

So you are happy the federal government is taking away the rights of the people in your state? Wow that makes you sound like such a nice person. Good thing you don't post your name publicly so we can't dig you up. Anyone happy with the federal government thinks and how they are running things believes in removing women's healthcare and decisions to do what we need to do for our own bodies. You support taking away healthcare to anyone who isn't STRAIGHT or a WHITE MALE.
Aren't you just a lovely person.

Many federal employees are not happy at all with the way things are going. I'm sorry you're in pain, but there are people who stick with their jobs through all of this turmoil due to being serviced oriented. For example, the VA is not an easy place to work and you could get paid a lot more to work elsewhere in healthcare. However, a lot of VA employees are toughing it out so they can help veterans. Other people who see the need for science to not be completely nullified are sticking with their positions to try to retain the integrity of data and history. These are all feds. Not everybody works for ICE or DOGE.

Where are you looking to pivot to?

I enjoy helping as much as I can but am actively looking to leave prior to everything becoming privatized and destroyed from within.

Everyday I am able to help customers use Federal Hydropower more efficiently. I have found that our customers appreciate and know that we are always acting in their best interest without a profit motive. I am also proudly proclaiming that our Government agency is one that contributes dollars to the Federal Government as opposed to most Federal agencies that spend tax-payer dollars.

like

There is nothing more special about raising tax dollars rather than spending them. The mission needs to be faithfully executed regardless and the "spenders" can and do have just as much pride in their accomplishments. You are correct that Feds should not have a profit motive. Yet that makes the hard work and devotion to duty a mystery to the current administration who only knows how to evaluate worthiness based on greed and profit.

Walking away with my integrity, professionalism and sanity still intact after 6 months of psychological bullying. Working in the government is not what it’s made out to be. My job was rewarding but ultimately a disgusting, toxic environment with a 24year old manager with zero life experience.

What’s the symbol that you can type in a cell so you can input a text, but that text would not appear in the spreadsheet? I want to describe the formula without using a text box, which uses more space.

The equivalent of this is in SQL, you can use the apostrophe in the beginning of and end of a text. That text will not affect the function of the query, but that text can be seen if you proofread the query.

My supervisor gave me 8hours of AWOL because I couldn't show up one day because I was under anxiety. I have gave him letters from psychiatrist, psychologist that I'm passing through this. He didn't care and gave me an AWOL. I want to leave my job because my department is very toxic but I don't want to leave having that on my records.
If I move to another job later on (private or federal) this 8 hours of AWOL will show up?

My partner got a City of Toronto offer. Salary band is 104-121k. HR asked for his expectations and he said 115k. HR came back with a 106k offer stating nobody on the team makes that much so they cant offer it. Also said she is unsure if there is any wiggle room if any at all. I’ve looked at everyone on the team with the same titles salary on the sunshine list and the lowest I see is 121k. I assume there is an OT component of some sort but also can’t confirm. Thoughts? /negotiating advice?

Interviewed for a GS-15 (same agency but different office) and totally aced the interview with excellent answers. They know I’m a top performer with senior references. However I noticed there was an internal candidate who has been there for few years and interviewed that’s a veteran. I feel my chances just sank and want to gauge thoughts.
