Be yourself, and be prepared with 3/4 in-depth cases that touch on teamwork, analytical capabilities, leadership and your impact on an organization.
Be calm and donât be anxious.
Thanks so much everyone!!
I was hired out of undergrad, but for me interview key was to always have a very clear reason why I chose to have the experiences I did and a great understanding of what I learned from every experience. This required significant introspection.
I think I had the âdifficult situationâ question in every one of my interviews, they said not to reuse so would prepare a few for each question in case you get the same!
When Iâm interviewing I like it when candidates are honest rather than painting the picture that they know how to handle things 100% of the time.
Showing resilience and ability to learn and adjust in your examples is much more important than proving what a rockstar you are (the cases and your CV do that). Good luck!
SC1 dumb question but could you give a generic example of analytical abilities?
Tell a story about how analysis you did helped someone reach a new insight or (even better) take a specific action that improved the business. Not about tactical analysis skills like I understand how to use Alteryx
Structure your behavioral answers. STAR or SOAR formats are common. Practice your stories with peers and have a 1,3,5 minute version of the same story. At McKinsey interviewers will often dive deeply into a story so donât be surprised if people start pressing for more details in the middle of your story. Good luck!
Be yourself is the most important thing. Be 120% honest all the time. Have some key bullets in mind to tell stories such as "difficult situation", "when you persuaded someone", "why consulting", "why firm XYZ". But don't write a script. You don't want to sound like a robot. Also, it should be ok to ask for 5-10 seconds to structure your thoughts instead of saying stuff the way they come to mind. Good luck!
