Hey team. Does anyone have any tips for pivoting from into engineering consulting from industry? I've been in the power distribution industry for 5 months now out of uni and want to build up the skills so I can make an easy transition into consulting in a year.

(I’m not really sure since I’m a first generation lawyer) I know clerking is generally considered a great opportunity and learning experience and prestigious (?) Is it also the case working for a Senator?

I got an offer in industry! Feeling excited but at the same time very confused. It’s a good offer that I don’t want to pass up but also feel extremely bad leaving during busy season. Dumb questions but genuinely curious:

1) Let’s say you’re a recent undergrad candidate with no internships on your resume. What’s the deciding factor that you’re qualified for Advisory vs Tax vs Audit? Is it school, gpa, etc.?

2) Why can’t you switch from Tax to another SL without having to pull strings? I understand that there’s a difference in tax vs book experience but why does the Accounting field gatekeep other SLs? It’s not like we’re incapable of learning other areas.

I’m so tired of US companies hiring remote Canadian employees offering to pay a fraction of the price for the same role.

This is consistent across the majority of the tech companies. While I am looking to exit consulting, don’t want to be paid 50% of what my colleagues would be making across the border.

Recently, I joined a service based company with 26 CTC + buyout amount on 12th oct. I am about to receive my first salary. But yesterday I received an offer from a good product based company with 27 lpa. I told the product based company that I'm an immediate joiner. But now if I leave the current organisation without a 30 day notice period they will hold the salary + buyout amount. So it means 2 months salary loss. What should I do ? Absconding or salary loss?
