Hi all - I am a new partner at a v10 firm and currently 35 weeks pregnant. My firm has a general in office policy of 4 days a week. When is it appropriate to stop going into the office? I spoke with HR and since I am technically no longer an employee, we don’t have separate clear policy for this. They said just tell my teams (but I don’t really work with people in my office anyway). For additional context, I’m not going in mat leave until closer to labor so have a few weeks to go.

Do what you want and say nothing. I would be shocked if anyone says anything. If they do, just explain that you’re 35 weeks prego and mobility and other issues make it tough. Full stop.

I’m 36 weeks and are still going to office!! But I think I’ll stop going to the office after 37 weeks. My law firm also has the 4 days a week policy.

I went fully out at 36 weeks. More than fair to work from home now, especially if you don’t really work with people in your office.

I started WFH with both pregnancies (one as a senior associate and one as a NEP) around 36 weeks.

I went into the office 5 days a week until the Friday before my Monday induction. But I’m an associate and I was too afraid to ask…

Our associates that asked get a WFH accommodation in their third trimester! Policy is clearer for associates

I started working from home permanently at 36 weeks because the walk to the bathroom was really far. I'm really glad I did too, because i had my baby at 38 weeks and only 6 hours of labor. If I started labor at the office I'd be so upset.

Last week I had to explain to my child what “politics” (as in office politics) is. My child is going to a new high school and wants to play volleyball. There was a 3 day open “tryout” for incoming freshman for 2 teams. After the first day, she noticed that
1) there were obvious favorites (coaches are not even hiding that fact);
2) some can’t even play and got on the team,
3) some that can obviously play but did not get on the team;
4) decision were obviously made before the first day was over.

Recently got my child's passport renewed. Child is minor so effectively a new passport. Here is the timeline, with just regular service.

6/2 Applied in person at the local county office
6/6 The application reached the State Dept
7/9 Got email that status changed to Approved
7/12 Received the new passport

End to end, a little more than 5 weeks. "Routine service can take 8-11 weeks" is the standard disclaimer. It's all good people!

Last year when Covid broke, I received a couple of interview calls but ignored them as I felt the organization kept me at work when other companies cut short their HR staff so I should be with them even if with no appraisal. But now, I was living in the fool's paradise when I am told to leave with no job offers in hand, car and home loan, dependent parents, expecting jobless spouse with a 3-year old kid.

How’s your WFH workload, all? This week: Mon: 10 am - 2 am. Tues: 9 am-8 pm. Wed: 10 am-9 pm. Thurs: 10 am - 8 pm. Fri: 9:30 am-8 pm. Sat: 10 am - 7 pm. Sun: noon - 4 pm, then 7 pm - 11 pm.
This ... is ... not ... sustainable! I’m the sole earner and have a kid, so “just quit!” during a pandemic is not it - and “setting boundaries” ain’t easy when I’m always reachable by text/zoom/email. I’m fortunate to have a job, but damn. Working From Home = Working Forever From Everywhere. And it sucks.

Graduated law school, passed the bar, and started my job last summer. My wife and I got pregnant with our first sooner than we expected, and we're due in June. Any general tips/advice?

If you could go back and start over would you still choose this path? Or would you choose a different career and/or a different time to have children? I accidentally became a working parent in law so while I love my job and my children I don't think I would have planned it quite like this.
