I’m 42 but I dress like I’m 16 and eat a lot of candy so my face is fat which puffs out all the wrinkles.
People are always shocked when I tell them how old I am. Just last week an AAE said they thought I was 41.
I’m over 60, full time employee, but feel like I have to work twice as hard as the 30-year-olds every single week. I’ve been waiting to get booted out of the industry for 10 years now.
Part of it is also salary. Folks over 50 probably cost more than the young bucks.
I’m over 50 and have digital and print prowess and work my ass off to stay current. From what I’ve seen as a freelancer agenciesrely on older folks to get it done because they’ve been there done that a million times before
My entire agency is old and they’re gobbling up all the money
It's more about being relevant. you really need to understand all the emerging platforms, and how to do whatever you have been doing, in those. Easy example, writing in non-linear VR is a way different exercise than TV. It's not relevant quite yet, but it will be.
There is definitely truth to salaries though. That is probably the number one thing. They are throwing 3 kids at things that one person did 10 years ago, and are probably still paying less than your salary. This doesn't mean anything talent/knowledge wise, but they are looking for diamonds in the rough, they can grow in their own way.
I’m 38 and I’m feelin’ it
At my agency, if you were of a certain age and got laid off, HR would show you a list of all the people around your age group who didn't get let go. Makes a lot of sense, legally speaking.
