Hi All - My company recently offered to pay for a PMP certification. I think it's a very small attempt at making good on their promises for career development. They've given no further details or set any expectations for advancement. Looking for any feedback from others who perhaps hold PMP certifications in the CS industry or leaders who can speak to it's value or lack thereof. Thanks!

I would advise you go for it!! It will open many doors for you in the future whether you stay with this company or move on. It’s free to you, will look great on your resume, and will ensure you have options in the future.

A PMP certification is a gold star in career development. If they promised career development, it's just that, preparation and growth. Career development does not equal advancement. What it DOES mean is they believe in you enough to put money on the line to invest in your future. In my eyes it's not a small attempt.

Definitely go for it. If it’s something you’re interested in, and you think would benefit you.

I've a question on what sections to put on a regular resume. I see some people are using consulting style resume for outside companies as well. Do you think it's a good idea to devide work experience by projets? Or is it better to have "projects highlights" separate from work experience.. something like: intro>functional expertise> project highlights>work experience>education?
