Carmel Valley, Del Mar Heights, Loma Portal or Rancho Bernardo - all really good, safe and relatively affordable places for young families.
Take a look at the Garden Communities properties. They have several luxury apartment buildings with great amenities. There might be availability in that price range.

Try your luck in the island town of Coronado. It has the most beautiful neighborhoods in my opinion. It's also home to luxury condominiums overlooking the Pacific Ocean beaches.
I’d stay away from downtown. Mission valley, Claremont, La Jolla are great. PB if you plan on going to the beach or surf a lot.
Anywhere in North County. If you want to live a little in land towards the canyon I would look in Carmel Valley & Rancho Peñasquitos 92129/92130. If you want to live by the coast & be with other young people then look around Solana Beach & Cardiff By The Sea. Trust me! I’m originally from Rhode Island and I’m 33 this is where you want to be.
