Wasn’t able to interview on cycle for MBB/PEs due to a health scare so this is looking like my best shot for that career path. Insurance Defense Associate new to group. Just finished first year on the defense side after 6 years on the Plaintiff side, joined 3 weeks before lockdown. WFH with 6 and 2 year old. While billing 2k in a year with kids at home all day is nuts, you will not get better balance in a small pltff firm. Small firm partners are allergic to WFH, and can't afford to be flexible with when an associate gets to their work. The support of a larger firm is what has kept me alive this past year.

Anyone ever exit MBB to join PE in an Operations role? What was the experience like? Would people recommend this route? Is the $ similar?

What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice?
