Hi everyone! I’m currently a Senior 4 in EY FAAS and working through a transition from one of the specialty practices within FAAS to Core FAAS. My goal is to position myself for a potential promotion to Manager this summer, but given the firm’s current performance, it seems like making a strong business case for promotion may be more difficult. Long term, I don’t see myself staying in public accounting indefinitely or aiming for Partner. My personal goal is to continue in the workforce for the next 2–3 years preferably remotely, after which I plan to step away to focus on family. Because of that, my priority is maximizing my income in the near term while still doing interesting and meaningful work with the right resources to support it. I’m considering whether now is the right time to look at external opportunities, and if so, I’d love insight on which firms tend to offer strong starting salaries for first-year Managers in Advisory & Accounting. I’m not particularly focused on firm prestige, but I also want to avoid firms that primarily function as temporary staffing (like Siegfried). Would appreciate any thoughts on whether it makes sense to start looking now and which firms might align with my goals!

S4 and still no clear path to promo? Wtf happened to the FAAS I knew and loved

EY2 There were a lot of people held back due to overcrowding at the SM level, not lack of qualifications

You’re an S4 and you’re this concerned about this summer? Damn. I’m an S4 Core FAAS and maybe I should be too. I knew it was bad, but didn’t think there could be S5s (with CPA of course).

Counselor told me I’ll be M1 in August.

If you want to get promoted, you need to stay put. If you plan on leaving in the next 2-3 years, you sure as hell need to stay put. Juice isn’t worth the squeeze to try and internally transfer if you’re leaving anytime soon.

Have you looked into CFGI or Embark? Both do FAAS technical accounting, SOX implementation, transaction services, etc

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. Spoke to a lot of others who have left and seems like being pigeonholed or staffed on projects not related to the actual core work of the practice is the common reason. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...
