I once read a train of thought on this topic that resonated. A $15k bag is associated with a certain lifestyle which includes ownership of similarly high end things (home, car, etc.)and experiences (first class travel for example). One should strive for the lifestyle in which a $15k bag fits seamlessly. Admittedly I bought a similarly priced bag before I had “the lifestyle” and it didn’t make me feel good to carry say a Birkin bag while still renting a small apartment or flying coach. So if I could do it over again I’d attain the lifestyle first, and that’s the level of comp to answer your question.
Did it at 400k ish income. I disagree with A1's lifestyle comments. I want to spend my money on things I value most. I don't value Michelin star restaurant so I will gladly take my designer handbag to macdonald's or fly coach.
You can splurge on the bag if it doesn't affect your regular life (e.g. if you have to penny pinch and not get your haircut for 6 months / cut down on grocery bills, maybe 15k is too much right now)
I like what both A1 and SC 1 have to say. Depends entirely on what you value. I’m a lifestyle person so A1’s perspective resonates. However, I also have friends who don’t care to own property in general but are right there next to me trying to score a Birkin. Each to their own.
Probably SM but my husband also has a good income
As long as you are not breaking your bank to buy a bag, you are good.
I just wouldn’t spend $15k on a bag ever as it goes against my beliefs, and I would feel uncomfortable no matter what.
So my answer is spend $15k on a bag when you feel comfortable doing it.
