My current salary is under market average for my position but based off my coworkers’ negative experiences with asking for raises/promotions, I’m not really sure how to go about starting the conversation with my manager. While negotiating offer with one in hand, how do you deal with the question "Why are you looking at another offer when you already have one?" The honest answer is usually for more money. But there are other factors for choosing one company over another. How to pitch this in? I feel like any answer other than more money sounds fake to the person on the other side!
