Hi..
I did the same and I regretted it.
My previous company wanted to retain me and hence offered me the higher ctc than any offers which I was holding at that time. But I still joined one another company with a way more lesser fixed ctc.
But when I did that, I had my reasons.
1. I was doing more than 50-60% of work of the project and that excessive workload and overtime working was taking tolls on my health.
2. My teams members were too much dependent on me for their work and used to ask me for help all the time and I couldn't say 'no' (in which, last part was my fault, to be frank.)
3. They were trying to put more responsibilities on me with that retention promise.
4. I was hoping that I will get a work life balance and a good project in the new company that I was going to join.
Now.. why I am telling you this?
It's because whenever we take any decision that makes us regret later also has some reasons behind it. Even though the result was not in our favor, there were definitely some underlying factors which strongly brought us to that decision.
As you want to get out of that guilt for ruining your own career, just sit down and write the reasons behind your decision from the past.
If now you feel that the reasons are not actually valid from your current point of view, then take this a experience. The chances that you will not repeat the same mistake are higher now.
If you want to feel even better than that, write down the pros and cons of your decision that you are experiencing now. Then read those and tell yourself that you will just focus on the pros and will try to adjust for the cons.
Also... after some time, you can again prepare and switch again for the better package if you want.
Thank you so much... I was in a similar phase, and hence the switch. So I guess I'll just wait it out for some more time :)
Very well explained 🙌👍♥️
