Big4 keep variable as "potential earning" payment. It is always paid over and above CTC. Unlike most other companies where CTC includes a variable income part. That's why big4 probably don't show calculation on offer letters - my best guess, after working with 2 of them. And, it truly is a bonus, as above CTC in consulting industry, unlike other Indian firms who fools employees by showing it as "bonus", but it is actually a negotiated salary component by employees
EY has a reputation of paying 100% of that 10% components to most of it's employees who performed at least modestly well. Better than average performance can fetch about 12 to 14% too, without promotion
On a typical promotion year one can expect upto 40% hike and at least 20%
Very important:
Do remember that for most people who work with consulting, the variable component will definitely fall under tax brackets between 15 to 30%. So when you calculate your actual take home, understand that you will never get the full bonus amount ever
Really appreciated for your detailed information. Cheers
VP mostly varies from 5-25% of fixed component depending on your annual performance and the company 's profits in that particular financial year. So you can expect the amount on top of your fixed ctc, either paid to you in a single/double /quadruple installment. Don't expect too much(100%) because this is the only component on which the company has its full control and may give you whatever it thinks fair.
Thank you so much for the information.
I repeat don't join EY
Don't pay heed to such opinions without doing proper research yourself. This app is lately filling up with disgruntled employees which just want to vent their frustration.
