Hi! I have a question- 4 months ago I was hired to man the front desk & answer phones. One month into the job I was thrown into the only billing admin position for a small company’s commercial department and only have a high school diploma. I also have no desire in going to school. My partner works for the government and I’m very interested in his work, we have similar responsibilities only mine are on a MUCH smaller scale. I know experience can outweigh schooling... at times. What should I do?

If you're happy with your job, just continue doing it. If you have the opportunity to go to school it would be a good idea, it may be valuable to you in the future, of course. It is true that experience can outweigh education, but have some education can be valuable in some circumstances.

This is good. If you feel this is a good opportunity for you and for you to keep advancing then go for it. As long as you're not hindered into being stuck. Yeah the workforce do cater to degrees which is understood but if a person has already invested years into a company he/she should be given the opportunity to still advance.

There are many government jobs that only require a HS diploma. Check your local governments.

With the current administration I would be cautious when thinking about working for Federal, maybe State or County would be a smarter move.

Many local government jobs don't require a degree. I would research the pay in your local government, most should have their pay scales, and job descriptions published. Some small county government jobs aren't competitive with pay. However, benefits sometimes outweigh the downside of low pay.

I don't know what state you live in, but last year Minnesota removed all degree requirements outside of lawyers, doctors, and a few other select positions. Degrees are listed under preferred qualifications, instead of mandatory. I have a masters, but several managers, supervisors, and coworkers have a high school diploma only.

This is a great position. Don't walk from it. If you want to go back to school in the evening, get an associate degree of accounting from your community college. That can eventually lead you to do book keeping as a professional for a better paying job.

I manage 2 physician practices and one is extremely toxic. To the point the dr sides with staff even when I am trying to make corrective actions when patient care is in jeopardy. It’s been extremely stressful and harmful to my ptsd anxiety and depression.

Help me save the day: have a massive excel file (600k rows) with duplicate records (column a, b and c are duplicate, not a duplicate if a and b are the same though). How can I filter for just these records? If it didn’t crash excel I could concat into one column, Conditional format for duplicates, and sort by color. What’s a work around?

Hey, everyone! Hoping someone may have a lead for a free online database for training approvals and registrations? It doesn’t need to be fancy! I’m in a new role in the public sector and am trying to move them out of Outlook and Excel messiness for training registrations. I’m just looking to streamline and centralize the process. (We don’t have SharePoint or any centralized database.) Thanks in advance!

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.

Does where you get your masters degree matter? I’m in an online environmental science masters program at an expensive “name-brand” school, but have colleagues telling me I should transfer to a less expensive program to save $ because no one cares about where your degree is from. Aside from the cost of it, I like my program, and the fact that I’m now connected to an incredible alumni network. And not gonna lie, I like the clout. Thoughts?
