I have worked in municipal government for almost 17 years. I love what I do as an Inspector, but the environment is toxic, and administration horrible. I have an opportunity to go into the private sector side, as well a second interview for another municipality doing same job. Private sector job will pay 35,000 more but will be 3 hrs away my husband is in law enforcement and can’t leave due to his position. Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Hi everyone! I’m currently open to a new role after working for 5 years at my agency. Most of my work at the agency has involved management, community engagement, data analysis, communications, and visual design.

I’m curious about trying something new, but feel a bit directionless. Any advice on what could potentially be of interest?

My partner got a City of Toronto offer. Salary band is 104-121k. HR asked for his expectations and he said 115k. HR came back with a 106k offer stating nobody on the team makes that much so they cant offer it. Also said she is unsure if there is any wiggle room if any at all. I’ve looked at everyone on the team with the same titles salary on the sunshine list and the lowest I see is 121k. I assume there is an OT component of some sort but also can’t confirm. Thoughts? /negotiating advice?
