I’m passionate about this. Please listen up. You want to maximize your non bonus category spending. The non-biz card that does this is Citi double cash using the cheapest fee Citi rewards card, Citi Premier, to convert the double cash to points. Holding Citi Premier allows you to convert double cash from 2% cash back to 2x points on everything. Bonus categories of premier overlap with CSR, so don’t spend a penny on that card. Spend everything else on the Citi double cash. According to my calculation, you just have to spend $2,794 ANNUALLY to recoup the $95 premier fee and make a profit.
BA1 this is great analysis, but an alternative for OP might be to zero in on the chase trifecta, doubling between the freedom and freedom unlimited to maximize non bonus spend. Between the rotating 5x and 1.5x, I think there should be greater value to be gained especially considering these two are no-annual fee cards which minimizes the downside.
Churn and burn hotel/airline branded cards, especially since we can’t use personal cards for biz travel.
Amex gold
Also I should say I mostly do Marriott and Delta
You can definitely find offers for bonus points/miles for spending a certain amount in a few months on branded cards for each of those with a waived annual fee for the first year. If your credit is strong you can even close them before the year 2 fee hits with minimal impact.
Bonvoy Bold card has no annual fee if you’re looking to keep the card open longer.

If delta I would do the Amex plat
Sounds like a simple question but the answer may not be. Can I ask a coupe of questions?
1. Are you a churner or just looking to maximize your credit card rewards?
2. Are you willing to pay an annual fee?
3. Transferable currencies are more valuable, eg: Chase UR or Amex MR points.
4. Ideally needs to align with your strategy- do you want to maximize cash rewards or rebates or instead build up points to travel?
5. I would avoid hotel and airline cards, generally. Less valuable, more restrictive.
Happy to assist further based on your responses. Suggestion of opening a Chase Freedom and or Unlimited to maximize your Chase points is a good idea.
Then I would say you definitely need the Amex Gold card with 4x back on groceries for the first 25k spend. If you couple that with the Blue Business Plus which earns 2x everywhere, then you’ll earn s sizable Amex stash quickly. With Chase, definitely couple your CSR with the Freedom (5x rotating categories) and Freedom Unlimited (1.5x everywhere). Both have no AF so you’ll maximize your points no matter what category, whether Amex is accepted or not, etc.
I have the CSR, Amex Plat, Amex Gold, and Amex BBP. Those four work today like Mozart's orchestra: Playing lovely tunes of amazing redemptions and value.
Agreed. I find ways to make the AF back by making use of all the benefits and asking for retention offers on my Platinum cards. Also have received massive retention offers on some of my cards. Currently sitting with 1M+ points balances as a result of it all.
