I have a brokerage account with 7k in it, split 70% VOO 30% SCHF. I now have an additional 11k I can add - how should I allocate it? Should I move towards an 80/20 split just in current funds or add things like a growth (VGT) or high dividend ETF (VYM). All of my retirement accounts are already maxed, FWIW and don’t need the $ for any large purchases needed in the near future.

Sounds like your retirement is secure and you’re self sufficient. Play with it. Double it. Get an etrade account. Split it into some pharma stocks working on covid. If one hits it will likely skyrocket. But if you’re risk averse just do something safe. Maybe index fund, QQQ. I would play with it - take a risk. Life won’t be back to normal spending for some time for most people. You’ll save plenty over the next year or two.

There are so many....too many to follow. I don’t really follow pharma so unfortunately I can’t help you there. But, if you have time. Get in with one that has received a chunk oh HHS, DOD, DARPA funding. The smaller guys with lots of govt funding I feel might have better luck.

Following for pharma recommendations

Could someone elaborate on the truism that most people in my position won't be at the firm after a few years?

If I do good work, am well liked, and don't lateral or leave myself, what sort of things might cause me to be shown the door? If the reason is partnership, when do I/those around me start truly deciding whether or not I'm partner track?

Noting that I like my firm a lot--what's the expected outcome here?

Thanks!

I started interviewing early Oct with a company that reached out via recruiter. The hiring manager was very straight forward with me that I was his top candidate and I was told all other interviews were very positive incl CMO. The recruiter said they'd be making an offer but it's now been three weeks. Anyone else had the process drag on like this? Meanwhile I'm taking other interviews and was offered a promotion at current company, but was very interested in this one. What would you do?

Just say NO, Sorry your skills are not a match, don't ignore. You were also candidates once.

Worse they say We'll check or get back to you. But never come back. Luckily I got selected into a tier-1 company and their Recruiter ignored me once 😂. I am gonna personally meet that recruiter on Day1.

Can someone point me to some material where I can read about profit sharing vs 401k. I get the concept, but I am trying to understand is 10% profit sharing vested over 5 years better than an employee 401k match of 6%?

From my understanding 10% PS is better because it’s just a standard 10% on top of whatever I contribute though it takes 5 years to vest. Does this mean if I leave before 5 years I don’t get any of it?

Living in NYC — to buy a house before 30, how much did you cut back on 401k? I am maxing it out right now (age 23) but after rent and my Roth IRA I am only saving 10-15k every year. Doesn’t look like I’ll be able to afford a house for a while, but is it worth cutting my retirement down to get there faster? If so, how much is reasonable?
