How are you bringing a little holiday magic to your kids without driving yourselves crazy- while balancing a FT job? When I was a kid my mom (who was a SAHM) used to do fun stuff for all the holidays including Halloween, v-day, and of course Xmas. Like decorating the house, giving us small treats/ themed article of clothing. My kids are 3 & 1. I know they can’t remember yet but I’m feeling guilty that I barely did anything for Halloween besides get costumes. How do you do it/ what do you do?

Honestly? Lower your expectations of yourself. They’re little. Costumes and candy are the best part of the day. Beyond that, automate what you can — I love my delivery service. Cut em and cook ems, a pumpkin carving kit, some ghost mugs for nighttime hot chocolate, etc. Take the gathering of supplies off the to-do list so you can focus on the fun. I also have two 5 ft skeletons that I relocate around the house. They’re high impact, it’s easy (no elaborate elf on a shelf shenanigans here) and we all get a kick out of it. Gotta find some ease alongside the magic!

Love this, thank you!

God I hate the social media industrial complex for fueling constant feeling of inadequacy of all moms. Especially working moms. The VAST majority of us are not out here creating boo baskets and unveiling 24 days of advent gifts and staging pumpkin photo shoots and having themed pjs for Veterans Day and on and on and on.

*end rant. begin helpfulness.*

Kids - especially little ones - are SO easily charmed. It is truly the smallest things they remember and latch onto. I bought my kids grinch and Rudolph fleece blanket/pillows as an impulse buy from Marshall’s for $10 when they were your kids’ ages and they still (3 years later) use them every single night.

We’ll watch home alone one thousand times and drink hot chocolate. They’ll “help” me make cookies and we’ll deliver some to neighbors. Release the guilt. Embrace whatever little magic moments you can - they’ll love it.

I love this, thank you for sharing!

Do the magic making only if it brings you joy and know that any tiny thing will delight your kid. I love magic making at the holidays so it feels like a hobby I make time for; it’s for me, not just my kid. I have plenty of friends who don’t love it and so don’t do much. Their kids are just as happy :) Traditions work really well for us, aka the same thing every year that after the first year requires extremely minimal planning on my part. My kid loooves expecting her special things and I don’t reinvent the wheel every year. We have a birthday banner and reusable streamers that get used for every person’s birthday every year; a holiday activity advent calendar where I use the same old activity papers every December and just add or replace something as my kid ages; the leprechaun visits our home every St Patrick’s day and leaves a scavenger hunt to find a box of lucky charms - ChatGPT makes scavenger hunt clues sooo simple (and 5 and under we used the same clues every year!); Valentine’s Day I do a small heart themed gift, and collect little heart things as I see them during the year (ie a cute heart T-shirt or book on love), or hit the dollar bin in January. Etsy and the internet are full of wonderful pre-made holiday activity things too which means someone else takes the mental load of creating them - I bought a pack of printable holiday advent activities and then modified over time for my family, the first St Pat’s scavenger hunt too. Also, I don’t think I started any of these traditions until at least 3 years old, so you haven’t missed anything :)

Oh trust me, grandma has allll the holiday books covered 😂 but yes I have been pulling out those books for each holiday so that’s a win!

Anyone hiring those who have been out of work for a year? I took time off to tend to personal matters, but I am now looking to get back into the workforce again. My previous experience includes time at B4 audit up to senior level and then transitioned to manager in industry. Senior/manager roles are preferred.

I don’t mind audit. However, I’d prefer it not to be at a B4, as I am looking for some semblance of a work life balance.

DM me if you have something above, thanks.

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. I’ve been in a near constant depressive/anxious state for family reasons for the last year and half, and am soon having my first kid. I’m scared shitless that I’ll spiral out of control both at work and at home if something doesn’t change soon. Any suggestions on how to keep this job and keep it together?

My wife works at a school with kids with behavioral issues. The kids are abusive to the teachers/paras and have hit, kicked, pulled hair, as well as have grabbed the privates of teachers/paras. Nothing is ever done about it by higher up. Recently, the principal got kicked in the leg, and it turns out that the superintendent is “pressing charges” against the kid, but won’t do anything for the teachers/paras. What actions can my wife and the teachers take if the superintendent won't do anything?
