Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

Can someone make a bowl just for people asking MBB questions?
Man there are lots of people who want to sequester topics around mbb. Should we just create sub bowls for every topic / sub topic / sub sub sub sub topic?
I prepared the same way for all consulting interviews. Just assume they’re all interviewee led. No one was upset set when I was hypothesis driven in approach.
Wouldn’t recommend over thinking it
Dd1 how do you keep finding me?...
@McK1 it depends
I’m interviewing with a group of former MBB for an internal strat position. But, I’ve never done a case interview. What’s it like?
D1 that’s like saying don’t study for the SAT or GMAT. It’s not 100% aptitude
Yeah, that’s a good question. Hard to prescribe but I honestly believe that once you do enough practices cases, it’ll feel like a conversation/session that you’re brainstorming with your manager. That should be your goal.
The interview should highlight your personality on two fronts - one, your overall demeanor and attitude comes through as you work through something ambiguous and difficult, and two, your anecdotes and insights throughout can be a great way to bring in some of your previous experiences/thought process. There isn’t one thing that you do that conveys this - it’s the collective interview that should speak to your personality. In other words, fit comes through the whole time.
Does that help?
They are similar. If you get the case, you get the case. No “special preparation” will give you an advantage
I never prepped for BB.
I also prepared for both, the core skills are exactly the same. BCG interviews are also interviewer led sometimes, don’t be confused.
@d1 yes but structuring your thoughts under time pressure succinctly/effectively is something that can be prepared....so yes everyone could hypothetically “solve the problem” on the case, but prepping and practicing will make some people do it better than others
I did the same prep for all. Learn how to crush the case while showcasing your personality - I think both are really important and the latter is underrated. I loved Victor Cheng’s materials.
While we tend to be more “interviewee led”, I’ve had interviews that were more “interviewer led” so wouldn’t say you should anchor on one style based on M vs BB. Across firms and interviewers, you need to know how to answer as well as lead the discussion.
Definitely! Now to find people who know what they're talking about to case me 🙃
Okay I phrased that badly since like Deloitte, Aceenture, etc. are also similar. My point was, how to switch mindset from interviewer led to interviewee led and account for the different behavioral format
How do you prepare for these interviews? It seems like the whole point is that you can’t prepare. That way you have to wing it, and it’ll be obvious who the smartest people are. Am I missing something?
So what percentage is different and how do you address that? Isn’t it just what we do on a daily basis? Solve a problem?
Thanks @Mck3. OP sorry for hijacking your thread, but just a couple more questions.
1) is this really broadly done? I’ve essentially never prepped for an interview other than some background research. Seems odd to practice thinking/problem solving approaches outside of our standard usage, although I can see how weaker/less confident individuals could benefit.
2) are there established techniques/approaches I should consider?
D3, no prob, but I have to ask, did you not do any case interviews to get to Deloitte....? How did you get hired?
I’m in Advisory, so it may be different than the Consulting side. I did some interviews with boutiques, like Charles River and Cornerstone, that did something that sounds a little like a Case interview. However, I never prepped at all, and it seemed pretty easy to make a good impression working through the problem solving. Not sure it’s the same because I never even really thought about it.
