Has Moss Adams move to unlimited PTO yet? Comments on Glassdoor are from 2020 - wondering if things have changed since the pandemic.

Nah. We still accrue PTO days. The biggest change post pandemic is going mostly remote/hybrid

To be fair, when you get into specialty groups like M&A and have a JD or LLM, you probably have more leverage because you'll be doing much more analysis and what I'd consider value add work over compliance.

My comment was more towards fed tax and audit at staff and senior level, and likely any staff across the firm would have a hard time thriving and growing in a remote environment (based on what we've seen so far, our staff that come into the office more tend to have more hours billed, prob because of better billing habits and learning from the people around them, better communication, again prob because having more resources around them to easily ask questions and observe the experienced folks work ethic).

25 days and one week of that is used for firm shut downs in July and December

like

I tend to not be able to take PTO until later in the summer and then in the fall. With the firm closures and the holidays I typically also start the year negative PTO which is allowed up to 35 hours (last I asked) but you can’t take more until the negative amount is replenished

1 YOE w MA here. The 25 days includes 2 weeks of shut downs that are "agreed" upon throughout the firm. Technically, the remaining 15 days or so can be used throughout the year

helpful

Agreed with MA2. Love firm closure and don't mind taking 3 days of mandatory PTO for 4th of July. We get two paid holidays

Should I take this role?
Pros: 50k bump, company is full remote, no time tracking software, unlimited PTO, 10k in quarterly bonuses, vertical move in responsibility and title, will set me up for future roles in different companies with the title I am looking for (so strategic move)

Cons: Its a startup, the solution they offer is adjacent to my desired industry, its a very small team so I wouldn’t grow my network as much, tech stipend for new laptop (but they don’t provide a work one)

Have an interesting scenario. Holiday party season is approaching. At one of our parties (during working hours) there is an optional “talent show.” Employees can win door prizes. We have an entry that is a religious song - like one you would sing in church. I assume we need to let this employee perform this - or we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Likewise, if we permit this song, I assume we cannot compel attendance to the talent show. The talent show is part of a lunch thing.

We outsource our payroll function. But as the head of HR in a rapidly-growing business but still young, I'm still managing a portion of the administrative burdens related to payroll, PTO, insurance, etc. Recruiting, full onboarding duties, and company policies are among SOME other tasks I own. Beyond this, everytime the word "compliance" arises, immediately, it's put on my plate. My company stretches the word "onboarding" to when we bring on subcontractors, it is again an "HR thing." Thoughts?

Confused if parents want schools to reopen or not? I read so many posts here about how difficult it is to work full time and manage kids’ at-home schooling (I can’t even imagine!) so would assume that means parents want to reopen, but at the same time keep seeing a ton of backlash from parents in states who are pushing to reopen due to safety reasons. NYC office: NYC tax on paycheck, easier commute, possibly higher pay?
