how do I convince a possible new job in a different field that if they teach me how to do the job I will do the job proficiently and learn all that I need to in order to excel there ? I am currently a general manager at Penn station and I desperately need a career change. I've been doing this for 10 years and im tired of chaos, people, and stress. but I feel like with all the apps I've put in outside of the restaurant business, no one thinks twice about me... what can I do

Congratulations on seeking something that's better aligned with your goals. This is a critical step in your journey, and I believe you'll be successful.

You need to clearly and effectively articulate your competence and performance in your current role, then segue into why you're excited to pursue an opportunity that's better aligned with your long-term ambitions.

One piece of advice: don't approach the interview as though you're asking someone to rescue you with a new job. Instead, show up to every stage of the process—including the application—with confidence. Demonstrate that you've consistently been an all-star throughout your career, then lean into your excitement about the opportunity to continue growing in a role that offers greater runway for your ambitions.

The narrative should be, "I've been successful, I've learned a great deal, and now I'm excited for a challenge that's an even better fit for where I want to go next."

treat these career prospects lightly and see how you can grow, understand the business needs and how you would be a great fit for the role long term. it’s not just fit for the company it’s a mutual fit

Do companies sometimes offer "gifts of appreciation" if you're not selected for a merit increase? My manager randomly called me to let me know I was chosen for the "gift" this year bc of my "hard work & dedication", except now I'm learning other colleagues are receiving actual merits.
I mean it's possible that I may receive a merit, but I feel like I won't considering my manager never brought it up & the dept update made it sound like those receiving it should know by now.

My head is beginning to not hurt and that worries me. I am used to banging it against a wall the entire day (theoretically). I work with people that I struggle to communicate with and/or they are extremely uneducated about various things that I used to think were the basics. I grew up poor and paid for everything myself; Money drives me. Where do I even begin to look to know what I should be doing?Sales is too easy, I need a challenge. I am good at inventing solutions. Ideas?

Deciding on a career path

I feel like my brain works like a consultant, and I would enjoy consulting, but I also looove all things finance & investing. While I don’t necessarily have extensive experience in the field (most of what I know is self taught, my major is accounting), I want to get involved in it somehow and learn more.

I currently work in audit, I’m not sure what exit opportunities are an option for me for the investing/finance industry. Feel like chances are are slim. Any advice?

Tough time getting past final step: I’ve been trying to make a career shift for 10 months now and continue to get rejected at the last step. Im confident in the value I can provide and do well at presenting it. However, once it’s comes down to me and 1-2 other candidates, I repeatedly have been turned down for the person who has more relevant experience as they’re a safer bet for the employer. Would love advice from anyone who’s dealt with this before. It’s tough to get them to take a risk on me

I’ve been with my current company for a little over 5 years now and since the start of the pandemic have been WFH. I absolutely love WFH and have always wanted a position in which I could WFH. There is talk of bringing everyone back to the office full time and that’s not what I would like to happen. I’ve been searching for a new position in which it would be a remote role. My current company also said I am maxed out in term of what they are willing to pay salary wise.
