Are you personally not getting praised? I’m a female POC and I get praised at work regularly.
I get praised very regularly, both from boss and stakeholders. POC female.
I get praised but my raises are still not the same
I’ll take your case, they know better! Speak up for yourself
I am personally not :(
Compartmentalizing. Focus on the tasks that get me paid. Steer clear of socializing and bond building events that do not get me paid. I do my 8 and skate.
Don't allow them to validate or invalidate you. I know success in our field kind of depends on it but keep doing good so when it comes to promotions you can advocate for yourself
I would focus on what I can control, which is my own work and attitude. I would try my best to make sure that I am producingl the highest quality of work and that I am putting my best foot forward
This is the best advice. All you can do is keep doing your best work
Almost no one gets appropriately praised in law firms. I wouldn’t read too much into it.
Honestly, this is true at my firm. The only way we know if we did well is if we were not berated during or after the meeting
If you don't feel like you're being appreciated, I would start applying to other firms. You need to feel appreciated if you're putting in the work
It can be frustrating, but I've learned to focus on the work that I'm doing and the progress I'm making rather than the recognition I'm receiving. I'm also trying to build a supportive network of fellow attorneys of color so that we can lift each other up. Lastly, I'm taking the initiative to speak up and make sure my efforts are noticed and appreciated. Hope this helps!
Separate my value from the people I work with
I learned early in my career to not compare myself to others. It will drive you crazy so I only worry about my praise
Acknowledge and shout out each other. And don’t be afraid to be proud of your own work. Sometimes we aren’t praised we are working hard and “letting our work speak for itself.” That’s not it. Because we’ve all seen where Mediocre Mike will proudly announce that he remembered his copy machine code, or worked through lunch one day and everyone in the room praises him for taking ownership of his career and stepping it up.
