How do you evaluate if suing someone would be worth it? i.e. can you actually collect

I have a contractor that has done limited work, the work he’s done has made things worse, and he has deposits that he won’t return.

$8K in deposits, $12K in rework quoted from another contractor, $3K in delay credits mentioned in contract.

Any recommendations on where to invest 10k? I have about 15k in stocks but I don’t think I’ve done a great job picking stocks. Also for people making 150k+ how do you budget your money monthly?

We have savings of $250k and our HHI is c$350k, with no debt. We will probably exhaust our savings on the deposit and closing costs. A $1m with mortgage at 6% with property taxes is c$8k/month. Question for folks with second homes: Considering buying a vacation home but would be primarily for family use. We currently have a primary residence with a mortgage balance of ~640K, so my understanding is I could only deduct the mortgage interest on 110K of the second mortgage to stay under the 750K cap. If I were to buy the second home through an LLC, would that allow me to exceed that 750K since the expenses of the second home would be pass through expenses/income?

3. Rent condos at discounted rates (for taxes)
