Partners: I’m a sr. associate managing multiple cases without a whole lot of oversight. A few of the cases I am managing are very large, very fast, and very contentious. I try to be as immersed in the details as I can, but can’t know everything. I rely on others to give me accurate and actionable facts. First year here. Do associates get fired for not meeting the billable requirements?

There were substantial layoffs at firm and management has denied, saying they were performance related (mostly bullshit). They have not ruled out [further] layoffs in the future.

I don’t want to lose my job, and it would absolutely suck. But I almost feel numb and hard to even get too worked up over the prospect given how emotionally exhausting this year has been. Maybe bcz I feel somewhat safe, but I feel like if it happens, it does, and I’ll find a way to recover/move on.
