How do you guys handle fatigue in location of your career?

25, young Mechanical Engineer with 2 years experience in DoD sector. About a year ago my partner and I split, and I have been in VA since (we both relocated here from NC). I don’t have any intermediate family near here, so I am considering relocating back closer to home (further south) for work.

It sounds like moving back home might be a better choice for you. And there's nothing wrong with that. If you don't have a reason to stay, you might as well go where you have a support system. You could start applying now and let them know in your cover letter that you are currently in VA, but you are looking to relocate.

If you're cleared, home might not be the best for your career. A DoD clearance will net you a lot more pay in most cases.

Do what you feel best doing, just make sure you consider that piece and don't shoot yourself in the foot.

By “home might not be the best”, is this in relation to the STEM/DoD job market in the south?

Home reno financing question. Have a big project coming up in the $120-150k range. Funding sources are:
- 90k from a heloc around prime
- 10k from a credit card that offers promo checks at 2-3% for 12-18 months
- 375k in a brokerage
- 5-6k per month cash that I can put towards the project, loans, or brokerage

I don't want to stop funding the brokerage because my FIRE plan is less numbers based than "hoard like dragon until it's enough" but maybe I should... How would you optimize?

Do you pay your credit cards in full every month?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.

Home office preference question. I am getting ready to redo the layout of my home office. One option I'm considering would have my desk facing a wall. As soon as we get someone over that and they don’t provide a payment date, I’m being asked to contact their CEOs somehow and demand payment. I think it’s dumb, will hurt the relationship and I also don’t want to ruin my reputation. Thoughts?
