Welp… if you are client facing, years and years of torment and scorn while needing to manage expectations helps build some great compartmentalization skills. Where the wrath of the 9 circles of hell boils down to behind the cheerful smiling mask. Then your quell that with equal parts therapy and alcohol, and repeat your Stuart smalls mantra the you are special, important, and gosh darn it people like ya… over and over again until you’re slurring it in the mirror
Sometimes I just have to put myself on do not disturb and tell my coworkers to try to not contact me. I need some time to get some stuff done so I lie. I think that you should see how many stickies I have all over my monitor about positive speech and stuff like that.
I just do the best I can. I try not to think about anything that isn't work-related, and I put my head down and push through the day. I know how hard it is, though, when you have other things going on and you are in a funk.
There are times when I start to feel pretty brittle and I know I might snap at someone. So I purposely try to keep a low profile and avoid getting into any unnecessary conversations. I may appear standoffish, I suppose, but that's better than the alternative, which would be to really let loose on someone.
