How do you shift from being reactive to proactive when the rest of the org isn't on board? Got pulled in AFTER a data breach to clean up the legal mess. Turns out no one in development even considered the privacy risks. Not.My.Job mentality is gonna be the death of this company...

Business understand business. Show the people who control the purse strings how expensive a breach can be relative to the cost of implementing and maintaining a good privacy and security program.

Privacy by design.

Yeah I agree, try to implement a PIA system at least. Then you can scare them with examples of fines and/or legal actions in your industry/country

Realistically if company doesn’t want their privacy lawyer to be proactive then you’re impossibly swimming upstream bc there just isn’t very much you can do solely on your own.

If the org and execs aren’t onboard with your style and strategy, it is time to move on

Hi! Anybody knows of federal agencies hiring that are offering fulltime telework/remote?
I currently work for an agency based in DC and my boss is forcing us to come back into the office fulltime after we’ve been remote for nearly two years. Majority of my coworkers have already left for the private sector but I’d like to remain in the public.

Solve a debate for me I think my husband is way underpaid. He has 5 years of experience in all kinds of dev but has specialized in cloud computing. He has been working for the same company since he graduated. He has worked his way up to lead developer and makes $110k. What would you think a remote employee should be making with 5 years of experience.

Hi,
My HR discussion with
Cognizant is scheduled.
Is this going to be a salary discussion or questions like strength and weakness, why do you want to join etc?

Interviewed for a GS-15 (same agency but different office) and totally aced the interview with excellent answers. They know I’m a top performer with senior references. However I noticed there was an internal candidate who has been there for few years and interviewed that’s a veteran. I feel my chances just sank and want to gauge thoughts.

Hi all,
Been doing privacy for about a year now in-house. Got my CIPP/US.
Having major imposter syndrome still. I feel like the minute I finally have a grasp, something changes. The law and nuances just seem overwhelming. Maybe it’s just a lack of guidance/uniformity in the US. I’m not sure if I feel this way because it is simply the nature of the work or because I’m just not capable.

So as a 30ish yo with a government/PE/tech background and CIPM/CIPP… I’m finding privacy work is just much easier and interesting than other kinds, but still pays plenty well.

Is it too late/inadvisable to go to law school to specifically aim for privacy work?

I just find some firms are unwilling to entertain the idea that anyone but a lawyer has anything relevant to contribute in this space…
