Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

What if its client data you can’t put client or your company data on GitHub. Mostly just stuck doing personal projects
This + try to make sure your resume really captures the tools + impact of the work you’re most proud of. I have a note in my portfolio that says I’m not able to share client work publicly but here are personal projects that highlight my key skill sets, see resume for overview of client work.
You can put them on GitHub and have project specific links in the projects section of your resume or if there isn’t space, post the GitHub link at the top of your resume with your phone email etc
Please do not put company projects on a public GitHub space unless you are OK with being fired and/or sued
So, the issue is that hiring managers are so inundated with resumes these days, that it’s hard to devote the time to check out someone’s previous work outside of their resume.
Put it in your resume
Have a skills section to list them. Then in your work experience provide examples of how you’ve used those skills. Weave in your projects to your work experience section. No need to have a separate projects section. Make sure the skills match up to what’s in the job post. There’s some good sites that help with this stuff. Kantan HQ is one I used and got traction from.
