How does one become a pro bono partner? Even if they’re on the bottom rung of equity forever, that seems a really sweet gig

At the two firms I’ve worked at it’s not a partner role, more like special counsel

These “partners” are laughing stock for partners with real clients. It’s essentially a dead-end with a fancy title.

Yep, definitely a personal preference issue. I’ve yet to meet a partner at a big firm with a reasonable WLB. I have no interest in that level of stress. I aim to be retired by 55 at the latest.

I would disagree about challenging work though. There is definitely some challenging work in pro bono, and pro bono partners have some leeway to bring in and handle cases they prefer.

Also, some firm pro bono partners do have their own billable practice with paying clients as well. So you could do a mix if that was what you wanted.

Hi,
I had call with the HR for he position based out of Mumbai everything in interview and they are ready to share the offer. however, I quoted for 10 lakhs and they said for fixed pay of 8.75.
Although, i checked on Google as well average pay they are giving is 9.7 lakh
So should I accept the offer as per their negotiation or shall positively tell them why 10 lakh is justified?

Full disclosure, I didn’t read past the first sentence.

Is it common for an SE to need to do analyst-style research for a POV/POC? This research helps guides our team of analysts in configuring the product’s environment for the POC. As an SE, I’m tasked with this research since I’m customer-facing but our analysts are not. Idea being that I can apply knowledge of the customer’s requirements.

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

Any craft beer brewers here?

In the last two year I’ve gotten more and more into alcohol free beer. The selection in my country (Europe) is still small and mainly driven by the big brands (e.g. Heineken). My idea is to start my own small brewery which only produces alcohol free beer as a bit of a pendant to the booming local craft beer industry. Any thoughts on that idea or someone who has experience in the market?

How much actual court experience should a junior litigator expect to get in the first year? I've been my firm 6 months as a civil litigator not and have yet to go to a hearing. There have been a few (all relatively minor) but each time the partner tells me it's not important enough for me to attend. As a junior, I feel like I need to learn and no hearing is to minor. How else am I supposed to learn?
