Set an imaginary meeting at the end of the 15 minute meeting and excuse yourself
let’s be honest, quick daily meetings DO keep people accountable. they’re not inherently bad. but if they’re taking 45+ minutes rather than 15, that’s indicative of a deep failure by leadership. no team status check needs to be that long unless it only occurs on a weekly basis.
ok let’s talk about the person who laugh reacted to my comment. according to fishbowl you work at sweetgreen. i’ll agree a salad bowl chain doesn’t need daily standup meetings at all. but why are you in an accounting group here?
Unfortunately that’s what happens when someone hears Agile or Scrum without understanding the process or the value 🤣
If implemented well, the idea is to make an incremental update and also having the ability to course correct quickly
Status updates - when I can write what you need in 2 mins, let’s have a 30 minute call.
Use this time to engage with your colleagues, offer support, and offer constructive ideas to make everyone’s work better.
Meetings and calls that could and should be emails. Irrelevant trainings.
We have a standing weekly call for 30 min. We talk about capacity and the partners gives an update on whatever if necessary.
I really like it and it gives FaceTime for the whole team which we wouldn’t have otherwise.
I’m in FDD so it’s def helpful if we need to shift resources since it’s a fast paced environment.
Sometimes we make standing daily calls if a deal is due soon but that’s rare.
We’re also a small team.
Sorry for the word vomit
