How is everyone handling their Woman’s groups or Women’s professional development programs being cut, if they are? To “minimize risk” my firm has terminated all these programs that made me so happy to be at the firm in the first place. Should I leave or do we ride it out until there is hopefully a new administration and make sure there are still women left when all this is over?

IMO I don't think those groups do anything to benefit women because they don't support relationships forming and women aren't putting enough into building relationships from those groups. While the men are out skiing and golfing together to actually bonding, we're in a conference room or at a bouquet making class thinking about how much work we have to do.

BUT the world is outrageously violent and hostile toward women right now. People are working vigorously toward pushing us out of work and public life, so we do need to have a "take no hostages attitude" and not give them an inch of ground or deference for these believes or for sacrificing women for the greater good. We have to make ourselves our #1 political priority because no one else will. Everyone will put it second to some other issue so it never moves forward, but you can't currently run a firm without us and you can't currently win elections without our votes, so they'll need to reflect that priority to keep our support.

And we need to get serious about taking over positions of power so we control industry, wall st and government. That's the real way this changes. Our work and us being relentless.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk! Happy NYE! 🥂

My firm is not cutting them. They’ve actually added affinity groups instead of backtracking from them.

Those women’s groups were window dressing anyway. If they were anything like the ones at my firm, they were a waste of your time for the benefit of recruitment brochures.

Sounds like a depressing waste of an opportunity by the firm

I would leave a firm that did that. Have some balls, ladies!

Sorry this is happening. Personally it probably wouldn’t be a reason for me to switch jobs bc like another commenter said, these groups don’t always add a lot of value, so you might not find a satisfactory group even if you move to a firm that has one. Can you unofficially stay connected with your firm’s group? If you’re finding supportive colleagues this way, then I see no reason why that would have to stop. Make an email or chat group for people to ask questions or discuss issues, grab coffee once in awhile, etc.? If there’s some other aspect that was valuable (training?) maybe see if it could be offered to everyone?

Just plan lunches and activities with the same group of people.

My current (soon to be former) firm cut affinity groups but retained the DEI staff. My new firm asked which ones I wanted to join as part of onboarding, so I hope they still exist there.

Mine cut the activities associated with them and they were so much fun. It’s a bummer but I wouldn’t leave my firm over a temporary garbage administration. 3 more years 😮‍💨

My firm has stripped them back significantly. We used to have a fantastic annual women’s group holiday dinner which was replaced by an in-office lunch that hardly anyone attended. Other events have been similarly downsized or eliminated.

How do I divide the chores in this case? I’m the breadwinner - husband has been taking time off from work. No kids. Two dogs.

I feel like I do more chores because there are some things that I just can’t stand. Like dishes left in the sink, dirty floor, dirty dogs, laundry…etc. When I ask him to do those chores, he says he will do them later but he takes forever. So I do them instead. He does grocery shopping, yard work, some cooking. Is it unfair if I repeatedly ask him to do more? 😡😡
