S& may end up holding some folks at senior for four years if the market doesn’t improve. right now it’s a mandatory 3 years for home growns to manager, MBA hires have a better shot at 2 years to M.
pretty awful moves by the firm, given many practices at PwC still commonly have people go 2+2 to M.
Why are you spreading rumors? Do you have numbers to claim it was a majority? There was no cap on senior associate promotions. We promoted everyone who was ready, and those who could benefit from additional reps will be given the opportunity for promotion after Cycle 1. Saying there was a delay makes it seem like it was a financial decision for the firm and it was not.
I’m not a man, for one. And I’m not special. And not pulling up the ladder, quite the opposite actually. People who were promoted aggressively and perhaps too quickly have been suffering. I don’t want to see more managers let go because they simply were not ready to handle the stresses thrown on them. This isn’t as relevant on the move to senior, but the idea that moving to senior is somehow automatic or earned after a certain period of time does a lot of disservice by taking away from a focus on readiness. It then creates a similar pattern with seniors believing they are ready for manager after 2 years because they associate the readiness with length of time instead of the actual skills needed. It’s been incredibly detrimental to a lot of people. The firm (and all the other firms) genuinely need to figure out another way to reward progression by acknowledging levels within level or progress within a level. “Promotion or bust” mindset never serves anyone well and always results in disappointment. My comment was not meant to put anyone down, rather, it was to caution not to hang your hat / identity on time in role believing that that’s what earns you the promotion. OP’s counselor is not being real with them. Even if there were 3 slots and OP was the 4th, the answer is not “just a little more time” or “we didn’t have the budget” — those are inadequate answers even in a terrible market. The good answer needs to be “other people are stronger than you in X Y and Z and that’s why they, all else equal, got the nod for the limited spots we had.”

We’ve had promos delayed and COL adjustments cancelled for the past 2 years.
