Partnership is almost impossible, and it’s very cut throat. If culture matters to you, I wouldn’t go.
Can you say more about the ways in which it is cut throat? Between folks at the same levels? Management is cut throat to non-partners? I’m
trying to drill down a little more on this.
I did not have a very positive experience as a transactional associate there, despite having high hours and good reviews. They don’t have a culture of training their associates and turnover for midlevels is high. The people are generally nice, but the open market system is tough because a lot of the partners play favorites.
The firm is chill about the hours requirement for juniors. Not sure about those more senior. There are a handful of people in my office who are counsel (and are uninterested in partnership). However, the firm recently transitioned into a two tier partnership structure, so it’s unclear what this means for future counsel roles.
AWFUL. RUN.
I’ve heard London office culture isn’t good. Don’t know about other offices.
In corporate at mofo the partners give absolutely 0 shits about the associates. There’s no training, mentorship or support. There are also a couple partners who are total assholes. But mostly the attitude is apathy and playing favorites. Mofo’s litigation practice is stronger though and would hope it’s better.
