6 years in. Still learning something new everyday

like

Does that mean you should just start as soon as possible

I felt comfortable doing most of the heavy lifting in years 5-6. At year 7.5 now, and I feel confident that I know what I’m doing 80% of the time. 20% is learning something new and/or improving.

like

I felt good by year 6 with all auto stuff, but feel out of my element at year 14 with wrongful death and more complex liability issues… so still learning!

like

I’m seeing ppl say “still learning!”
Which is fine.

But another question. When did you feel comfortable to be able to do most of the heavy lifting for a case by yourself?
From intake to verdict?

I said still learning but as for comfort it took me 2 years. Leaned on an experienced paralegal and made mistakes but after two to two and a half years I felt like I was comfortable with my knowledge base

About 6 years to feel confident, 10 to feel like I’d mastered it.

This was my first job out of college and I don’t really know how I got into this path. Graduated in business management and marketing. I am super creative and feel like a need a job that allows me to showcase that, but not sure what. Wondering if anyone works in the business world but also mixes with the creative side.

I need a laugh. Tell me about your most entitled client.

Mine called my personal cell phone on Christmas Day to ask me the status of her case while I was in the middle of watching my kids open presents. I’d just talked to her the week before and told her that the defendants had 30 days to respond.

like

I give my cell phone to all clients routinely. However, there are always 1 to 2 clients who abuse this and it seems as soon as their cases are over I find a new one and it is making me rethink. I hate to do this because 98% do not abuse it and I like being connected to my people. Thoughts??

Are there many legitimate ethical hurdles when switching from insurance defense to plaintiff’s work? I’ve always seen myself as a plaintiff’s lawyer, but ultimately took an ID job out of law school (better salary, no real opportunities at plaintiffs firms that I liked). For Plaintiff's attorneys, how big is your caseload? What kind of cases are the majority of them and are they in suit? I am currently handling 150+ mostly MVAs and premise liability cases, just about all in suit, (on top of about 10 DUIs and other small traffic matters) and I feel like I'm drowning and looking to jump ship. Hi everyone - I'm contemplating an offer from a large PI firm. I'm a little more than halfway through completing my 2nd year of practice, and I'm currently at a small firm with a low salary that's just no longer cutting it.

The offer from the large firm is for a pre-suit position, base salary of $100K - is this salary pretty standard for this kind of position?

Any insight is appreciated, thank you!!

Any good or bad firm culture to speak of?
Is it impossible to actually earn a respectable incentive bonus?
Am I going to have some partner come cut me out of any cases where I might actually make a solid fee?
