Are budgeted hours as big a deal at Big 4? I've legit been asked why I charged 8 hours one day on a client I was assigned 40 for the week. It makes it difficult to hit utilization targets too

Anyone use Applicant Lab’s 1:1 services with Maria directly? Heard good things about their main tool but not sure if working directly with Maria is worth it compared to more traditional consultants at established shops like SBC or mba mission since the rates are similar. Primarily need help with career vision and essays.

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?

I need help managing a contract transition. I just started working as project manager owning a large system and help manage a team of developers contracted by a different company. Now their contract is ending and I’ve been asked to represent the gov’t as a contractor and make sure the transition goes well. I’ve never been in this position…usually I’m either transitioning in or out. The outgoing isn’t very organized with their knowledge transfer and documentation and want to help them but how?
