Do what’s best for your family
4-5 years is my max limit if I don’t think I’ll move up in the current company.
At 2 years, you know whether it’ll be a long-term fit or not. That’s not when I leave, but it’s definitely when I start looking around and see what’s next.
That lines up with when I start to get antsy for the next thing too
I have job-hopped consistently, pretty much every 2–3 years. I have found that this is really the only way to increase your salary. It seems like most companies don't want to give more than 3–5% raises, and that just isn't going to cut it.
Rising Star
Have you talked to your manager yet to indicate you are looking to further your career? If not, book a meeting and start listing out achievements you have done for the company and start stating your interest. If you already had the discussion. I would look to join another team or elsewhere if you feel you are treated unfairly.
Yes and unfortunately I’ve been given more responsibilities over the last 3 years with no actual promotion in sight unless I go through the standard application process that someone outside the company would also go through, and the hiring manager selects me
