How many of you ditched partnership to spend more time and be “available” for your families/SO? Was it worth it? If you’re juggling both what’s the trick and do you want to bow out at any point?

Following-thinking about this a lot lately

I am 15 years out of law school. I recently went in house after being in big law my entire career this far. I knew earlier on I wasn’t going for the partnership track so I went on a reduced our schedule and that worked really well for over a decade.I have two children and my husband is a partner at a big law firm. It really really works well for us, and I have absolutely zero regrets. I also have time for my personal self-care, going to the gym five days a week, all of my beauty treatments etc. I truly feel like I am happy and I know that if I’m happy than my kids and my family will also be happy

I put partnership on pause when pregnant with my second (2 under 2 is no joke). I opted to he fully remote while my kids are small, and my firm won't elevate me as a result. There are days I'm frustrated by my title, knowing I deserve more, but the kids are only little for so long.

I ditched it to go in house. My main partner/firm asked me to go in partnership track when I got pregnant on year 6 and I turned it down after talking to a few partners at work. I always knew I wasn’t cut out for it and went in house after maternity leave. Never been happier and feel like I can actually enjoy my time outside of work with my kid!

Following also. Really giving thought to this lately.

I am 10 yrs out and got promoted to counsel, 2 small kids. The frustrating part is having to deal with your peers or juniors who made to move to partnership. Had a law school classmate who is partner at my firm call me to dictate edits to an engagement letter or once sent an email about his editing preferences. I’m semi retiring abroad in a year so I’ll put up with this but I couldn’t do it in the long term

Why not both? This is coming from someone not working at big law, but my firm generates somewhere between $45-60MM/yr being midsize

It always seemed like real estate was one of the safest things to invest in. Then the crash of ‘09 happened, and the market bounced back for a while. And now we’re in… whatever this is. It just seems surreal.

Hello All,

Have a few questions regarding IBM Joining, HR response is strangely lacking and so does in the slack(prejoin channels). Hoping can be cleared here..
a) I've been told virtual onboarding is no longer a thing.
How many days does in-person onboarding activities occur?
b) HR Informed,"After onboarding is complete, can get perm WFH based on project or extension of WFH as IBM is flexible"
Is this true? Can managers extend/grant remote for a month then let us transit to remote model?
