I used the a lot in middle school, but I also find I don't use them as much in high school. I would use them if I wrote it into my lesson plans. But not often. Because we are so short handed I have no planning so taking the time to factor manipulatives in just doesn't work.
I remember my geometry teacher once upon a time gave us string cardboard and two pins to demonstrate how an elipse is created... I could come up with a lot for geometry but I'm not sure about others
I love Algebra Tiles for factoring and completing the square. My students have walked away with a much better comprehension of factoring and completing the square. Some still struggled with transferring to the algebraic methods, but it was a bridge for quite a few of my students.
