One of my big hang-ups with biden tax plan is raising corporate tax across the board. Do most firms start reporting years in September or January? Prior firm did an August year for counting hours and then another did January (both Amlaw 200). Looking at an Amlaw 100 to lateral in the fall (so trying to anticipate how much of the year I’ll have). I’ll ask what bonus/reporting year but just curious if most follow the same.

How's inflation and cost of living in Texas this year and any predictions moving forward? With the recession looming or already here I'd like to relocate to somewhere cheaper (currently in Seattle), but only if it's going to stay that way.

So the question has been asked a few times in the main Big Law bowl but keeps getting derailed into a political issue. As someone with a more conservative disposition anyway I'm interested in the day to day of life and work in Texas as opposed to NYC (or similar).

I’m a 4th-year at a midsize firm doing mostly oil and gas work, but I’m looking to change practice areas so I can get away from a dying/morally problematic industry and move into EC/VC, Corporate, tech transactions, and/or privacy and cybersecurity (have CIPP/US & /E). I’m not having much luck with recruiters or applying directly to firms and companies, so I’m thinking of hiring a career coach to help me hone my applications, cover letters, etc. Any suggestions?
