Many agencies look for something like 7–10 years of total copy experience and a couple of years at a senior level before they’ll feel comfortable with someone as an ACD, because the job is as much about leading people, clients, and production as it is about writing. The “do you have the chops?” question is annoying, but they’re really probing whether you have management, production, and client‑lead experience yet, so the more you can show concrete examples of leading teams and shepherding work from idea to final.
