I haven't posted there very often at all. And when I did it was about a charity project I had become involved with. I would feel weird posting about myself or my work. There is a belief that a presence there can help you, and I suppose some visibility there could matter in some ways. But unless you have something insightful to say, I think you can come off looking like just another self-promoter in a site full of them.
LinkedIn is important because networking is important. I hate that app, never posted. Rn I mostly network through volunteering and making connections that way. I’m sure I’m missing out in some respects, but I’m pleased with my choices.
I love this. I feel like volunteering is an under-appreciated form of networking and it really should be much more emphasized. I have struggled to use LinkedIn efficiently so I think I should try to go this route. Seems like an in-person or volunteer-based professional connection would be stronger than a LinkedIn connection anyway.
I don't post on there super often, but I'm trying to make more of an effort to post and network more. I always feel so awkward posting and talking about my own accomplishments, but I know that it's sort of a necessary evil to show people that I'm connected with what I'm working on and start conversations to network more.
I am so bad at posting on LinkedIn and I can go days or weeks or more without logging into LinkedIn! I know this is horrible. Occasionally, I will share an article or post I like on LinkedIn but I never create unique posts.
I post when I have career related news to share (promotion, new company, completed a degree or some certifications, I am hiring) and then primarily use it to comment on other people’s stuff, see job openings, etc. you don’t need to become a LinkedIn “thought leader” - there’s plenty of people out there making kinda cringey “inspirational” posts.
After I meet anyone new at work I immediately connect with them on LinkedIn that day or shortly thereafter.
