So excited to be putting in my notice next week!
All right people. LET'S FILE SOME TAX RETURNS.
I’ve been postponing actively looking for exits ops because I felt bad that I will be leaving my teams before busy season and thus burning all the bridges. But I’ve reached out to recruiters and they haven’t set up interviews for me yet. So am I just stuck on another busy season? If there are people willing to refer me to other big4 or non-big 4, DM me. I’m looking to move from audit senior 3 to TAS. PwC KPMG RSM

I loved public, but I knew i just wouldn't be able to have children if I stayed. So I went to industry after 5 years and being told I was on the "FastTrack to partner." 14 years later I have no regrets. Was able to have 4 children, and I work from home making good money in tax.
Ask yourself if you’re in it to make partner then stay (assuming you reach at least senior). Other than that the biggest thing is WLB to change, better pay with less hours, possibility of remote, etc
I honestly could not see myself be a Manager in public accounting or partner. I wanted a better work-life balance. It ended up working out for me and I’m happy, still have some career growth opportunities too. If you can grind it out to make a milestone role, then I would stay for the money alone and opportunities to transition out. However if it is taking a toll on your health etc, I would leave. But depends on your long term goals.
Here’s how I explained it:
“I always told myself I’d keep blinders on til manager and then explore my options. I’m now looking for a place where I can continue to learn and grow and challenge myself.”
The place I was interviewing with brought up the great WLB so I didn’t have to specifically bring it up. Basically every industry job will lead with that if that’s the case (not everywhere will be better WLB so pay attention if they’re silent on this) because they know typically they can’t offer the sustained salary growth you’d be experiencing if you stayed in PA.
You need to do an honest analysis of what you like and don’t like about your current role. See how that compares to what you want a career to look like. Some folks boomerang back to PA because industry jobs don’t have what they are looking for. It’s not always better on the other side of the client relationship.
“Hey, did you transition from public accounting to industry?”
“Yeah.”
Hope that helps, best of luck.
Just make sure you have and retain your public practice certificate.
My biggest career regret is starting out in commerce so I don’t have that. You never know when you’ll want to work for yourself or just have a good side gig.
