Not good. I’ve been less interested in pro golf this year than any years prior. I love watching a tour grinder squeeze out a win every now and then, but part of what makes that special is they are beating the big names. As more big names leave the whole product is watered down.
Living in Charlotte, I love the Wells Fargo championship. Them dropping sponsorship in part because the purse was too high is a major bummer.
Also unrelated but given the timing of the ball rollback…the bad news just keeps coming.
Rahm’s a tool. LIV is for wankers like Talor Gooch, and If the PGA caves to these clowns i’ll stop watching professional golf for entertainment and probably lose some weight, So win/win?
It’s hard to be upset at a guy taking a bag, especially once the tour completely 180’d on their original stance. The hypocrisy here is also real. Many of our employers on here gladly do business with Saudi Arabia and other countries with human rights violations. Also many other sporting events have seen influxes of Saudi cash with little to no protest. The double standard here for men’s pro golf has been counter productive. In a macro level, if you want to take up the cause of preventing entities from doing business with bad government actors that’s fine and it probably should have been done long ago. But there are way better “battlefields” to fight this on than the PGA tour/ pro sports in general. On a micro level I’m just more frustrated at the PGA tour’s flat footed response from the start.
With the PGAs about face to take a PIF investment, if I was a tour player that turned down a massive bag I would feel like a moron. I understand why Rahm did it, and we all would probably do it if we had the chance. In our corporate world if another corporation offered us 150X our pay upfront for example who wouldn’t take it?
Seems like PGA has already caved. “Merging” with LIV. Reconciliation with all players who went over. Completely reneging on their promises to veteran players.
They folded like a cheap picnic table at a free Muni Par 3 course.
Let’s be real. Any one of us would take the amount of money (relative to our current incomes) if offered. I love consulting and my firm, but money, and the ability to put my family in the best position possible, matters more.
Yeah Ethics and principles…fantasy.
LIV is literally just a vessel for PIF to conduct a hostile takeover of the PGAT through buying out human capital to water down the PGAT until they have no other choice but to take the money and merge. LIV will eventually liquidate into PGAT with PIF being the majority stakeholder imo.
Golf is hard, as the tour pros age they’re going to be more interested in the LIV format, right now the tour is the qualifying tour for the LIV tour. If Rory takes the $1B bag LIV is offering then the transformation will be solidified and all the young guns will be trying to separate themselves on the PGA tour with hopes of one day making it into LIV.
