Do you have solid client relationships? If so, excellent. Otherwise it’s very market / moment in time dependent. I’d say generally not robust.

Nah - just has to be a top m&a practice. Obviously city by city, but there are probably a dozen firms at least in NYC that fit that criteria.
Off top of my head in no particular order:
Wachtell, Cravath, SC, Weil, Kirkland, pw, Latham, DPW, STB, Debevoise, Gibson, cleary
But those are just the slam dunks. Like if you’re a 6th year lifer at DLA or Greenberg Traurig with a 2 page deal sheet that shows you’re on the A-team and can run a deal, you may be better positioned than someone who lateraled into Kirkland as a 3rd year and are looking to move again.
It’s very nuanced. At the end of the day, if you’re a senior, i care about one thing: can you QB a deal.
