Just did a night away for our anniversary - 3 hour drive, same state. It was tough, but only because I was doing something I felt semi-irresponsible about doing. I tried to let go a little here and there and that’s when I accidentally walked away from a chair without my mask (ran right back). I found myself getting really angry, not frustrated, at people who didn’t even pretend to have masks on their person (and there were plenty). All of that said, it was a VERY necessary trip for us, but I would say to do your best to maintain your bubble, even if it’s a little more mobile. Enjoy❤️
It really depends on where. And I highly doubt the Johns Hopkins tracking site is full of “nothingburger” surges. It’s either surfing or it’s not. You can discount predicted surges, sure, but numbers are number.
VP2, What I meant is- there are thousands of stories a day saying “US Surging”. It’s the same click bait every day. The problem with this type of “journalism” is that we are not getting any informative data. Yes, cases are up. Deaths are down. The truly important data: ages, races, health conditions, access to health care, working classifications (essential vs. WFH) are what are important. Just saying “MOAR CASES” is not useful. The reason for the surge is that reopening was rushed, people politicized mask wearing (which is dumb AF) and there is zero leadership from our bullshit President & government. So if you’re taking precautions, mask wearing, and social distancing-the possibility for transmission is very very low.
I’m a hard no and I reallllly need a break. Have a big job. Lots of (young) kids. I’m a household manager, a camp counselor, a teacher, a parent, a wife and an executive. Nah. I’m good. I can take care of me/us later to not risk infecting my family and other people I come in contact with. Camping, yes (and that says a lot since I despise camping). Maybe an Airbnb if the drive would allow no public restroom stops. But honestly, only you know what YOU need. And we’re different people. And I’m totally envious. Please have fun for me! I miss outside.
I’m not personally comfortable traveling on airplanes. But my partner is also high risk. You can only make that decision for yourself.
We did a vacation recently but we drove. We also went to a state with new cases still down in the 300s and in a county with 0 new cases for a while.
I guess if the air in your hotel isn’t circulated internally it’s fine. We stayed in an Airbnb so that wasn’t an issue. Our vacation was a beach one. We just went to the beach every day and socially distanced . It wasn’t hard- 6 ft is actually not that far and most days everyone around us was over 10 ft away. For meals we ate at home (or at our spot on the beach). No restaurants- I don’t feel comfortable at outdoor or indoor restaurants. We didn’t do anything else, really. The most high-risk thing we did is let our kids play at a splash pad by our Airbnb and use some public restrooms. All in all, I felt fine about it.
What are you doing on the vacation and where, OP? To me that is as or more important than the flight.
I feel really ok about it, and am not worried. I understand the rising numbers, but also think there is a lot of “nothingburger” reporting on the surges. We do masks, SD-ing, and have been stringent about our people safety + bubbles. I just wanted to ask how you all feel about it: if you’re feeling like you gotta get some time away, and you’re committed to precautionary measures, and will follow the guidelines, how comfortable are you with traveling somewhere?
My partner and I need a vacation but are not yet comfortable with planes (we have cloth masks instead of proper n95s). Driving feels fine but then there’s the question of the hotel/Airbnb. Considering camping.
Where are you traveling from and to? I was in the same boat as you, and had a trip to Florida planned in a few weeks. I mean - it’s Florida- so obviously we cancelled that. Decided to instead drive to a lake house vacation that is three hours away. Wasn’t feeling comfortable flying the closer it came.
Just fyi I flew recently on Delta (necessity, not vacation) and about 1/5 of the people in the terminal and on the plane had their masks hanging off their faces. They lined up in the aisles even after the announcement requested people to stay seated while deplaning until it was your turn. NO ONE enforced any rules. It was quite scary.
I had the complete opposite experience at SFO Delta terminal and on both legs of my trip. Everyone masked up and very obedient.
